Women's Styles
Most women in the 1950s, like June Cleaver, wore skirts or aprons. They often accessorized with pearls, high heals, and intricate designs on their skirts and aprons. The skirts were often pinched at the waist. A common hairstyle was like a poodle, short and curly hair. Women looked so nice because they were not just supposed to clean the house, but also look presentable and be nice to look at. It was considered that the nicer a woman was dressed, the higher economic status she held.
As you can tell from the above clip, June Cleaver was almost always pictured in a dress or skirt with an apron. She usually one, two, or three sets of pearls. Her hair was always prim and proper, short and curly.
This photo is from a Christmas Episode. Wally and Beaver are in their robes and Ward is in his robes. June still chose to wear a dress with a formal bun in her hair. This exemplifies that women were expected to ALWAYS look nice and proper, no matter the occasion or what their other family members were wearing. Click below to learn more about Men's Styles!
